-
You will meet with Nina Hoaglund, MSN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Care is personalized and collaborative, with time to discuss your concerns, treatment options, and goals.
-
In-person appointments are held at 113 E. Sothel Street, Suite 3, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948. Appointment availability and arrival instructions will be discussed during scheduling.

Services and Treatment
-
Causeway focuses on psychiatric evaluations and medication management rather than ongoing psychotherapy appointments. Visits may include supportive discussion, education, and practical recommendations. When helpful, we can recommend working with a therapist alongside your psychiatric care.
-
Treatment recommendations are individualized. We will discuss potential benefits, risks, and alternatives, and you may ask questions or decline a recommendation. An evaluation does not automatically result in a prescription.
-
We can review your current treatment and relevant records. Continuing a medication depends on the evaluation, safety considerations, monitoring needs, and whether it is appropriate for your care. A previous prescription does not guarantee continuation.
-
Controlled medications are considered only when clinically appropriate and legally permitted. Additional records, monitoring, a treatment agreement, testing, or an in-person evaluation may be needed. Scheduling an appointment does not guarantee a specific medication.
-
Follow-up timing depends on your symptoms, treatment plan, medication changes, and monitoring needs. We will discuss an appropriate schedule together and adjust it as your needs change.
-
Yes. Coordination with other treating professionals may be part of your care. We will discuss what information is helpful to share and obtain authorization when required.
-
Causeway does not currently provide primary substance-use-disorder treatment, detoxification, inpatient care, or intensive outpatient programs. If your needs require services beyond our outpatient scope, we will discuss appropriate referrals.
-
Requests are reviewed individually under the practice’s forms policy. Completion depends on the purpose of the form, available clinical information, and whether the request is within our scope. Completion is not guaranteed, and any separate fee will be discussed before work begins.
Telehealth and Communication
-
Yes. Telehealth is available for appropriate outpatient psychiatric care while you are physically located in North Carolina. Some concerns or treatment plans may require an in-person evaluation.
-
Causeway currently requires you to be physically in North Carolina for every telehealth appointment. Contact the practice before your visit if you will be out of state so we can discuss rescheduling and continuity of care.
-
Choose a private, quiet location with a reliable internet connection and a device that supports video and audio. Have your medication list available. You will be asked to confirm your current location and callback number. Please do not join while driving.
-
Use secure messaging through Spruce for clinical questions, medication requests, and other patient-related communication. Use Charm Health for registration forms and patient portal tasks as directed. General email and the public website form should not be used to send medical, insurance, or payment details.
-
Causeway generally aims to respond to routine messages within one business day, but response time is not guaranteed. Messages are not continuously monitored. Questions requiring a clinical assessment or treatment change may require an appointment.
-
Send your request through secure messaging at least five business days before you run out. Refills are processed during business hours and may require a follow-up appointment or monitoring. Early refills and replacement of lost, stolen, or damaged medication are not guaranteed.
-
Causeway does not provide emergency or 24-hour crisis coverage. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. For suicide or emotional crisis support, call or text 988. Do not wait for a response through email, voicemail, the website, or secure messaging.
-
Please discuss any proposed audio recording, video recording, or transcription before the visit begins. Causeway asks everyone who would be recorded to agree in writing beforehand. If you need help remembering the discussion, you may request written instructions or a visit summary.
